Termessos is very unique and beautiful antique city.

There are many antique city and national parks around Antalya region.

Taurus Mountains are one of the most beautiful statue mountains of the world. Of course there are many beautiful mountains in the world but you don’t usually ran into antique cities or statues or life experience of 10.000 years.

Identity of the City is from Hellenistic Era. One of the favorite gods are Artemis and Zeus Solymeus. There are 7 temples defined and biggest one is at the entrance for Artemis and Empreror Hadrian’s time.

When you see a temple outside of the city walls you can understand that those are generally from 2AD as Hadrian’s time is so comfortable and cities doesn’t need walls to be safe.

Termessos city kept their good relationship with Romans and that’s why they also built the tample for Artemis and Hadrian both.

Also flora and fauna of Termesssos (Güllük) National Park is so unique. You may see a Lynx or endemic flowers.

There is Gymnasium in antique city. Which means school, university. In antique times cities are states. There is no national states. So at the time every city-state should have and army and those are trainings were experiencing in Gymnasiums. Students came from even today’s Bursa city which is around 700-800km away from Termessos.

People usually thinks all antique cities are from Greek-Roman times. But in reality if a word consists SS, ND, NT like we know that origin of names of antique cities like TermeSSos, SaNTos, AspeNDos cities not coming from Greek but one of the first European language and Anatolian local language called Luwian. We can follow tracks of the Luwian language like from 2000BC.

So Psydians are also member of Luwian language and people of Termessos even going way back further and called themselves as Solyms as they call the Mountain as Solymos Mountain.

At that time they think heroes are also gods and that’s why grave of hero is always look like a temple. Because a god only can sleep in a temple and rock represents mother goddess also as where heroes are going to be at heart of.

Theatre of Termessos is magnifique! 2 people can speak from the far point easily as acoustic of architecture.

ALCETAS

Story of Alcetas is impressive. Aleta’s is a commander who lived 14 years after of failed attempt to invade Termessos by Alexandre the Great (yes he failed)

When Alexandre the Great suddenly died on the way back from Asia his generals competing with each other and they want to have as much as land they can. Antigonus and Alcetas are 2 of those generals. Antegonus at that time in south Turkey and he is trying to be the one who is in charge in Asia and Alcetas is against it. Obviously Alcetas is the favorite one of Psydians as he took refuge in Termessos. (After losing against Antegonus)

Antegonus arrives to Termessos with his army. Young warriors of the Termessos stands against Antegonus but elders doesn’t want to have another war with anyone 14 years after of Great Alexandre’s struggle and they want to give Alcetas away. Elders lies to warriors and says ok go fight against Antigonus but he moved his armies to more east and warriors went to east but Antegonus was not moved. And when young wa rriors left the city elders wants to find Alcetas but when Alcetas understood elders will give him to Antigonus he ends his life himself and elders gives hise body to Antegonus.

As we know since Antique times there is tradition of humilition of enemy’s body and Antigonus does that to Alcetas and leaves his body in the city. Warriors gets mad and they even want to burn the city. At the end they compromise and they built as hero temple.
