On May 31, 2013 a historic tornado event unfolded west of Oklahoma City. A record breaking 2.6 mile wide eF3* tornado took the lives of 4 storm chasers including Tim Samaras, Paul Samaras, and Carl Young of Twistex. This tornado was particuarly dangerous because of it's unpredictability and intensity. The tornado formed west of El Reno and tracked southeast. It became wrapped in rain making it hard to see. The tornado unexpectedly changed direction, grew in size, and increased it's forward speed simutaneously. This resulted in multiple storm chasers being directly impacted by the tornado and it's subvorticies.
