Knowing when and when not to inform the Department of Work and Pensions (and your Local Authority if you receive Council Tax Support or Housing Benefit) can be a bit of a minefield as the rules are different for each benefit. My general rule of thumb is always inform them when you go abroad, even if it's only for a few days.
