The Akita is probably the most known Japanese dog breed on the planet, and from its name, it originated from the Akita prefecture in northern Japan back in the 17th century.
It was used back then as a working and hunting dog, it’s known to be a large dog with a dense and thick fur, pointed ears, fury tail and a fox-like face. They may make heads turns with their majestic appearance.
When the Japanese breed was introduced in the USA, a mixed breed was created, known now as the American Akita, compared with the Japanese breed, the American comes in a wide range of colors, and there are some differences also but that’s another story.
