Planting a couple test plots this year, from seed saved over the last couple years. The planter did great for what it is.... a fence row special. The ground isn't the best. It's fairly hard packed from being in hay for 15 years. Most of the planter has been freed up & works. The depth adjustment screw is not one of those things. There also isn't much left of the runner openers. Fertilizer units are shot & long gone. The seed hoppers are good & worked well. No ground corn in the cans is a good sign. Honestly, I thought there would be flour going in to the ground, but such was not the case. However, one plate did better than the other for loading the cells. The 1928A plate did a great job & the 1856A plate probably only put half it's seed down. I guess I'll be hand planting quite a few skips. The whole thing is an experiment to see if it works.
Also.... the planter is set to 38" rows & 9 1/2" seed spacing. The plates are flat drop with fillers & 1928A seems to work the best for this seed.... for those who are curious.
I'll post back with updates on this & other projects throughout the season, time permitting.
Regards & enjoy!!
