First Train Of 2023 With 4 Locomotives On Short Line Railroad Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. Car Was Stuck On Tracks Before The Train Came. The train did some railroad switching first and then made its first run over the rusty rails. We see the rails before and after. This railroad branch line is leased from Norfolk Southern from MP9 to about MP78.445 and beyond that the tracks are out of service. Norfolk Southern wants to abandon the last 20 miles and give it to the state for a bike trail but that is contingent on the purchase of the Rat Hole Line from Cincinnati. More on that some other time.
I chased this train all the way to Sardinia, Ohio where it shut down for the night. The train was on the way to Hanson quarry at Plum Run to move cars for loading rock and then to take the rock train back. First we see the train run westbound through Newtown, Ohio to go to the interchange at Clare Yard. There they picked up a cut of cars and returned eastbound through Newtown. Then they tacked on some loaded rock cars with a locomotive at each end of them. We see the whole train pass through South Milford. The rock cars and both locomotives hooked to them were left on the main at South Milford for unloading. The locomotives were needed to move the rock cars while unloading.
Next we see the shorter train cross a historic overpass on Baldwin road and we see some of the excess water from the recent heavy rains. Then we see it passing over Main Street in Batavia, Ohio where the old brick train station stood until the 1990s. That is where Part 1 ends and Part 2 will pick up with the train at the top of the hill crossing Summit Road in Batavia. I am working on that video now. The car in this video was stuck on the track a couple hours before the train came. When I first filmed the train it was going in the opposite direction of the car. It did pass over that section of track after picking up the cars from NS at 4 track Clare Yard. Yes, I did notify the railroad about the car but they already knew about it. Guaranteed in the comments there will be people saying I should have called it in. I hear that every time I film a broken crossing gate, a broken rail, missing bolt, you name it. Lol
