We address questions about the feasibility of reducing XFS file systems. Unlike EXT3 and EXT4, XFS does not support easy reduction due to the dynamic creation of inodes. This complexity has led to choosing not to develop reduction tools for XFS. We discuss the rare necessity of reducing file systems, usually outnumbered by the need to expand them and mention scenarios such as reallocating space or correcting initial setup errors.
