The Congress in Kerala’s Mananthavady on August 04 celebrated the Supreme Court’s stay on Rahul Gandhi’s conviction over the defamation case on the insult of the ‘Modi’ surname. The Congress walked in a crowd and chanted slogans, celebrating the Supreme Court’s order. Earlier, in 2019, before the 17th Lok Sabha elections Rahul Gandhi made a statement in a public meeting in which he said that all individuals with the ‘Modi’ surname are thieves. These remarks led to filing of several defamation petitions that eventually led to his conviction and disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP.
